Rylie doesn't like the letter A

A few post down I wrote about how I am trying to have Rylie learn her A B C's. I am mostly focusing on letter recognition. I mentioned that we had started with the letter A. So, I had been pointing to the A on her wall, showing her the A magnet on the fridge and going over the letter A on the Starfall website, but she just wasn't getting it. A few times she would say A, but mostly, I would say, Rylie tell me what letter this is, and she would say, P , R or W. Then she decided to take the A sign off of the bedroom wall and tear it up in a million pieces. I started to get frustrated, thinking why isn't she getting this. It's so simple. She is very teachable, especially with repetition.

So today we sat down and went onto the Starfall website. As soon as the A popped up she got really mad, and said NO, and covered her face with her hands. I said, fine then, lets try another letter. I pulled up the R, B, C and D and she learned them right away. I pulled up the A again and she told me P, R and NO!!!!!! So, back to the R, B, C and D we went, and she did great!!!! We even learned the signs for each letter. She really liked signing the letters too, as long as it wasn't the A.

I have no idea what she has against the letter A, but for now we will skip it and work on the rest of the alphabet.

Memorial Day- You must watch

My friend Dawn just sent this to me:

Get a load of these high school kids. One of the fathers recorded it, added some graphic enhancements to the recording, and posted it on the web. The song, of course, is the 'Battle Hymn Of The Republic.' It will send a few shivers up your spine.http://www.greatdanepromilitary.com/Battle%20Hymn/index.htm

Wordless Wednesday-WEEEEEE!!!!!

A-B-C

I have a goal for Rylie. It is for her to recognize each letter of the alphabet by the time she goes to kindergarten in the fall. She can sing the alphabet song, but technically, she doesn't know her ABC's. I have decided to write the letters really big on construction paper and tape them to the wall in her room. We will do two letters per week. Yesterday we started with A (of course). We just kept going over it all day. Every time we go in her room, I ask her,"what letter is this"? Half of the time she would say A, and the other half of the time she would say, P or R. When she got it right, we would start dancing, and I made up a little song about the letter A.

If anybody else has any good advice about teaching a child w/ Ds letter recognition, I would love to hear it!

About the Wordless Wed. pic below:

Whenever Cesalie cries, or even whimpers a little, Rylie starts saying, Cessie BA BA!!! In other words-Get Cesalie's bottle now, so I don't have to hear her cry!
I hear it all day, so when I saw this picture below, I automatically thought Cessie BA BA! And speaking of Cesalie's bottle, Rylie has started to steal them away from her and drink them. Yuck! It's one thing if she drinks her juice, but she actually will drink her formula. Why? Why would formula taste good to a five year old who hasn't had formula since she was a baby?(jealousy, maybe?) Yesterday Cesalie was constipated. I had one little baby bottle of prune juice left. I gave it to Cesalie and Rylie stole it and drank it when I wasn't looking! Cesalie is still constipated ,and do I even need to tell you about how Rylie IS NOT constipated!?!

I received an award from Debbie!
Thanks Debbie! I will now to pass this award on to Melanie. Speaking of Melanie, she has tagged me! She wants to know a little bit more about me. I'm really not all that interesting, and that is why I blog about the kiddos! So here are some of the questions I need to answer:

What was I doing 10 years ago?

It was May 1998, and I was 23 years old. We had already been married for almost two years and we were waiting for Karlie to be born. I was about 6 months pregnant! Five things on my to do list for today.

Take Karlie to the bus stop, Clean, do laundry, work in my garden, take Rylie to Messy playtime.

Three of my bad habits.

worrying, not sticking to my diet, and complaining too much.

What would I do if I was a billionaire?

Buy a bigger house in the same neighborhood I live in now, Buy a shore house, Buy houses for family, Donate money to church, Ds awareness, and to Alpha Pregnancy, Hire a nanny and a maid every once in a while.

Five places I have lived.

4 different neighborhoods in Philadelphia -Tacony, Northwood, Port Richmond and Mayfair and now we live in a suburb right outside of Philly.

Five jobs I have had.

Cashier, Bank teller, Cust Service rep, shampoo girl and Hairstylist.(I am currently a hairstylist and SAHM)

and I was also tagged with

4 places I go over and over:
1. Karlie's bus stop
2. Grocery store (Giant)
3. Target

Field Day!

Today was Field Day at Karlie's School. All of the kids go out to the field and compete in different games. Here is Karlie's class heading down to the field

Karlie did an awesome job competing in all the games!

Cesalie was nice and content in her stroller watching her big sister play games!

Until a whole bunch of 3rd grade girls decided to make a big fuss over her!

Then she wanted out of the stroller, and she cried and cried and cried!

After she calmed down, we continued watching the games! Karlie had fun and must have been exhausted after all that running around. Next year it will be fun and interesting to see how Rylie does playing the games. The games are competitions. They actually have a winning team, not every one wins, and that is how it should be!
I did have to cut out a little bit early, so I will find out later if Karlie's team won.

Reminder, you still have some time left to enter the Barnes&Noble givaway! Winner will be announced tomorrow!

IEP

We had Rylie's IEP meeting yesterday. The best part about it was I was able to sit in a room and talk to adults with no children around for two hours! LOL! I'm kidding. The meeting went well. Rylie will be going to our home school next year. She will be in a regular kindergarten class intergrated with special ed kindergarten. They have a really good inclusion program at the school. We were satisfied with all of the goals listed. She will be receiving an hour of ST, OT and PT each week. I haven't officially signed anything yet and I STILL have thoughts running through my head, but I really can't get too worked up about kindergarten anymore. Rylie has a lot of school years ahead of her and I'm sure there will be some battles in the future. But right now I am happy that she will be going to school with her sister, and she will have a good amount of inclusion.
