Friday March 21st is World Down syndrome Day. Click here for more info. I have been sharing Rylie's life with everyone via this blog for a few months now. I hope I brought some awareness as to how wonderful raising a child with Down syndrome can be. Sure there are some struggles, but I hope I have made known just how proud I am of Rylie. On Friday,I think I will buy Rylie a cake and spend some time just celebrating her. If you have a child with Down syndrome, maybe you will be celebrating or doing something special in honor of your child. If you do ,leave me a comment or e mail as I would love to hear about it. I hope our family is all healthy by Friday. I've wanted a reason to get everyone out of this house and what better reason than to celebrate National Down syndrome day. Thanks for telling me about it.
Val, When God sent Rylie into our family, I didn't know what to expect. But He did. He knew that she was a precious blessing who would enrich all of our lives. This little girl is happy. She enjoys her life. She works hard to accomplish so many things. There is nothing lacking in Rylie: She's smart, she'e cute, she's funny, she's loving. A story that shows all of this is the first time she called me Mom-Mom. One day I came by for a visit and Rylie ran up to me, said "Hi, Mom-Mom!", and gave me a big wet kiss. Prior to that day, all I ever got was a half-hearted "hi" and a wave of her hand. (All the good stuff was reserved for Pop-Pop). I don't know what made her change her greeting to me that day, but she sure did melt my heart. I cannot imagine life without our Rylie. Happy World Down Syndrom Day! Love, Mom.
Aiden and I are proudly wearing our T21 Awareness shirts today!! We have also asked all of our friends and family members to wear yellow and blue in support of Aiden's "little something extra"
Before Rylie was born I knew what Down syndrome was, but never knew anybody who had it. I had heard that kids with Down syndrome were really loveable. I look at Rylie and sure she's loveable, but she is so much more. When I look at Rylie I see an adorable little girl who loves to play with the "big" kids, but doesn't let them push her around. She is curious and very persistent. Rylie is also a very enthusiastic and I look forward to her greeting when I first see her. Most of all Rylie has taught me to look at her as a little girl who just happens to have Down syndrome. Love, Aunt Colleen
